Tri-Freaks, a Seattle-based multipart race coordinator, is bringing the RainMan Indoor Triathlon Series to Issaquah on Saturday, Feb. 11. The event will also feature a food drive to benefit FamilyWorks, a staple of events hosted by TriFreaks.
“It’s something that we do as a company that we feel is really special,” said Leslie Barber, director of relations for Tri-Freaks. “It gives back to the community in so many ways.”
Like an outdoor triathlon, competitors will swim, bike and run in that order. The swim will be 450 yards (or 15 minutes), followed by a 30-minute bike ride and a 1.5 to three mile run.
“A lot of people who have never done a triathlon worry about the open water swimming,” Barber said. “It’s a good way for people to get an introduction to triathlons.”
Timed events (swimming and biking) will be converted into distance using a formula to determine the race winner.
The triathlon will be held at the Gold’s Gym in Issaquah, 1025 NW Gilman Blvd Suite E-8.
In the past, the event has been held at Greenlake but this year, TriFreaks is hosting a series of indoor triathlons throughout the Puget Sound. Issaquah is the second of the series (Silverdale was the opener), which will continue in Tacoma before returning to Seattle for the series championship at Evans Pool.
To register, visit trifreaks.com and find the “RainMan” tab on the left of the page. Start times will be given to competitors at time of registration. The fee for the triathlon is currently $55 and will go to $60 on Feb. 3.
