The boys defeated Roosevelt 90-53 and the girls beat the Roughriders 89-52.

Senior Mike Baba earned a pair of wins in the shot put (41 feet, 3 1/2 inches) and javelin (171-7).

Senior Turner Wiley and junior Jorrell Dorsey also picked up a pair of victories. Wiley won the 1,600 (4 minutes, 42.1 seconds) and the 3,200 (9:51.2), while Dorsey won the 200 meters (24 seconds) and the 400 meters (53.9).

The girls were paced by pole vaulter Eva Perry, who broke the school record for the fourth time. The junior cleared 12 feet and currently leads the nearest KingCo 4A competitor by 30 inches. She is also ranked No. 2 in the state across all classifications.

Sophomore Mckenna Hogan also had quite a day, taking first with a new personal record of 17-3 1/2 in the long jump — leaving her just 3/4 of an inch off a new school record. No female competitor has jumped that far since Kim Bierner set the school record in 1975.

Senior sprinter Haley Jacobson picked up a pair of wins in the 100 (12.9) and 200 (26.5), and sophomore thrower Katie Zhong swept the javelin (94-2), shot put (27-7 3/4) and discus (73-4).

Eastside Catholic boys, girls finish fourth

The Eastside Catholic track and field teams both finished fourth in a four-team Metro League meet Thursday at Ingraham High School.

The boys earned 76 points, finishing behind Blanchet (268), Seattle Prep (175.25) and Ingraham (78.75).

Junior Chevy Walker led the Crusaders with first-place finishes in the 200 (23.70) and 300 hurdles (43.30). He was also second in the 100 (11.40) and was the lead leg of the winning 400 meter relay team (46.20). The rest of the team included Charlie Kittridge, Nico Vizquel and Markell Sanders.

Junior Jake Springfield picked up Eastside’s other victory in the long jump (18-2 3/4).

A shorthanded Crusader girls team recorded just three points on Thursday.     Seattle Prep won with 322 points. Blanchet (199) and Ingraham (40) rounded out the field.

BOYS LACROSSE

Skyline hammers Curtis

Sophomore Cannon Gardner matched a season-high five goals and two assists as Skyline slammed Curtis 22-4 Thursday at Newport High School.

The Spartans led 10–3 at the intermission. In the second-half they added another six in each the third and fourth quarters to seal the win.

Skyline advanced to 3-0-0 in league play and 5-3-0 overall.

The Spartans next travel to Oregon April 8 to face Liberty.

GIRLS LACROSSE

Eastside hands MI first loss of the season

Alex Foreman scored a season-high 10 goals Thursday, helping Eastside Catholic to an 18–16 girls Division I high school lacrosse win over Mercer Island.

Danielle Leider scored three goals and Lauren Breynaert added two goals, two assists and 10 ground balls for EC.

The Crusaders improved 2-3-0, handing the Islanders first loss of the season.

Eastside Catholic next faces Lake Sammamish (1-1-0) at 5:30 p.m., Tuesday, April 12 at Charlie Acosta Field on the Eastside Catholic School campus.

BASEBALL

Issaquah out-slugged by Redmond

Redmond hit an impressive five home runs Thursday afternoon, cruising to a 12-1 victory over Issaquah at Hartman Park.

Zach Abbruzza hit back-to-back home runs in the second and third innings on his way to five a five-run day. Dylan Davis started things off with a three-run home run in the top of the first off starter Ethan Kalin and Jake Levin added a solo shot in the top of the fifth.

The Eagles scored their lone run in the bottom of the fifth when Gavin Schumaker hit a sacrifice fly to drive in Blake Miller.

Thursday’s make-up game was technically a home contest for Issaquah, which couldn’t play on its grass field. The Eagles dropped to 1-2 in league and 2-5 overall, while the Mustangs improved to 5-0 and 7-2.

Skyline blanked by Newport

Newport’s Cole Wiper was near perfect Thursday as he led the Knights to a 5-0 victory over Skyline.

The Spartans tallied just two hits over seven innings — both coming off the bat of Clayton Huber.

Skyline pitcher Matt Lunde allowed just three hits and one earned run over six innings.

The Spartans fell to 1-2 in league and 3-5 overall with the loss, while Newport improved to 2-1 and 4-2.
