Sophomore Lindsay Coutts earned two wins for the Spartans, taking the high jump (5 feet) and the long jump (16-3 1/4).

Other individual Skyline winners included Haley Smith (400), M’Kayla Silva (shot put), Elena Frerker (discus) and Marissa Fortier (triple jump).

The 800 and 1,600 relay teams also finished first. The 800 team of Kaylie Greninger, Smith, Jordan Branch and Michelle Bretl finished in 1 minute, 45.7 seconds and the 1,600 relay of Greninger, Maddi Hutson, Branch and Bretl crossed the line in 4:03.3.

Issaquah won six events, earning multiple victories from senior Haley Jacobson and sophomore Lauren Bruner.

Jacobson won the 100 in 12.1 seconds and the 200 in 25.1 seconds. Bruner won the 100 hurdles in 15.9 seconds and the 300 hurdles in 49.9 seconds.

Sophomore Katie Zhong took first in the javelin with a throw of 107-1.

The 400 relay of Jacobson, Kim Varney, Bruner and McKenna Hogan took first in 50 seconds.

Hollaway’s record vaults Issaquah boys to second

Issaquah senior Jason Hollaway cleared the old school pole vaulting record by 6 inches, earning a first-place finish and helping the Eagles to second place at the Thursday’s Issaquah School District meet.

Hollaway’s new mark of 14 feet, 6 inches, beat his previous school record of 14 feet. He shared the record with 2000 IHS graduate Mike Katayama.

Issaquah tallied 58 points, finishing behind Liberty (69) and ahead of Skyline (54).

Other first place finishers for the Eagles included Mike Baba (javelin) and Jorrell Dorsey (triple jump). The 400 relay of Allen Su, Dorsey, Kyle Farmer and Alex Rylander was also victorious, finishing in 43.8 seconds.

Skyline had seven first-place finishers.

Senior Kyle Branch had two victories, winning the 1,600 (4:32) and 3,200 (9:51.9).

Other individual winners included Jake Monroe (shot put), Riley Herrera (110 hurdles) and Bryan Lee (discus).

The 1,600 relay of Blake Young, Andrew Millett, Drew Matthews and Branch also finished first in 3:31.2.

BASEBALL

Eastside Catholic locks up top seed

Eastside Catholic secured the top seed in the Metro League Mountain Division Thursday afternoon, beating Lakeside 10-3 in Seattle.

Matt Wenzinger led the Crusaders at the plate, going 2-for-4 with a home run and four RBI. Jeff Bohling and Justin David also went 2-for-4 at the plate, driving in two and one run, respectively.

Kyle Larson picked up the victory for Eastside Catholic, which concluded the regular season with a 14-3 league and 16-4 overall record.

The Crusaders begin the Metro League tournament at 7 p.m., Monday against Franklin at Bannerwood Park in Bellevue.

TENNIS

Newport sweeps singles matches to edge Issaquah

Newport won all four singles matches Thursday afternoon, narrowly defeating Issaquah, 4-3.

No. 1 doubles players Sam Garrard and Sabrina Norton defeated Jane Choi and Emily Chen 6-4, 6-3 to lead Issaquah. Selena Lustig and Rachel Gonchar, along with Jenny Thompson and Sabrina Barnett also picked up two-set wins for th Eagles.

FASTPITCH

Skyline crushes Garfield

Skyline rolled to victory Thursday afternoon, defeating Garfield 19-2 in five innings.

Madisen Camp-Chimenti went 3-for-3 with a triple and two RBI, Anya Kamber was 3-for-4 with three RBI, a double and triple and Charlotte Zhao was 2-for-4 with three RBI. Lindsey Nicholson drove in three runs while Amanda Mayo and Erika Wolfe drove in two apiece.

The Spartans improved to 3-8 in league and 3-11 overall.

Woodinville ends Eastlake’s 13-game streak

Woodinville kept its record flawless Thursday afternoon, beating Eastlake 5-2 in Sammamish.

The Falcons scored two runs in the first and three more in the fourth. The Wolves rallied for a run in the fourth and another in the fifth.

The loss ended a 13-game win streak for Eastlake, marking its first defeat since March 16.

The Wolves are now 8-1 in league and 13-2 overall.
