Spartan girls claim eighth straight KingCo track title

For the eighth straight year, the Skyline girls nabbed a KingCo track and field team crown, taking the 4A league meet last Friday at Eastlake High School. The Spartans earned 117 points, finishing ahead of Inglemoor (101) and Issaquah (91).

Skyline had three league champions. The 400 relay team of Kiara Willams, Shealee O’Donnell, Kaylyn Berry and Rachael Butenko finished first (48.83 seconds), the 800 relay of Danielle Matthews, Michelle Bretl, Berry and O’Donnell took first (1 minute, 42.58 seconds), and Berry won the long jump (17-feet, 4 1/4 inches).

Skyline had four second-place finishes, including O’Donnell in the 100 (12.48) and 200 25.44); Amber Dodd in the 300 hurdles (45.16); and Haley Ziegler in the discus (104-2).

Issaquah earned two league championships behind Johanna Carr. The senior sprinter won the 100 (12.29) and 200 (25.39). She also played roles on the second-place 400 and 800 relays. The 400 team of Kim Varney, Haley Jacobson, Elaine Tran and Carr finished in 48.95, and the 800 team of Kaley Allison, Madison Callan, Varney and Carr finished in 1:42.70. Issaquah was .12 seconds behind Skyline in both events.

Tran also earned a second-place for the Eagles in the 100 hurdles (15.34).

Eastlake finished eighth of 12 teams with 42 points. Julia Bicknell took third in the high jump (5-0) and Natalie Lambert was third in the long jump (16-10).

The 4A District meet runs May 23-24 at the Southwest Complex in Seattle. Events start at 2:30 p.m. on Friday and noon on Saturday.
