The Issaquah Tigers, a 9-10-year-old Coast League fastpitch team, brought their big bats out May 1 for a 14-3 win over the Sammamish Heat, following it up May 3 with a hard-fought 6-4 victory over the Eastlake Huskies.

In the victory over Sammamish, four girls shared pitching duties. Michelle Gersuk, Madalyn Lyles, Emily Winterstein and Ellie Hendrickson combined for 11 strikeouts in four innings en route to the win.

Michelle Fowler pitched the first three innings, striking out seven of the 11 batters she faced, walking only one. Winterstein pitched 2 1/3 innings in relief, facing 14 batters, striking out five.

Tied 2-2 through the top of the fifth inning, the Tigers broke out in the bottom half of the inning via a two-run double from Sara Bruner. Dominique Shells came through with a stellar defensive catch and Fowler, reprising her role as closer, struck out the final batter to clinch the win.

The Tigers suffered their first loss of the season last week, falling 6-5 to the Huskies. Issaquah is now 6-1 in league play.
