ELECTION NIGHT: Mayor Vance behind in initial Sammamish Council results

Sammamish Mayor Tom Vance was behind opponent Tom Hornish in initial results for the Sammamish City Council race, released Tuesday night.

Sammamish Mayor Tom Vance was behind opponent Tom Hornish in initial results for the Sammamish City Council race, released Tuesday night.

Hornish had a 54.97 percent lead on the incumbent Vance in a race that’s seen 5,028 votes counted so far.

The results were representative for a race that saw a tight alliance between Hornish and two other candidates for the council. Incumbent councilor Ramiro Valderrama-Aramayo and Christie Malchow were both ahead in their respective races Tuesday night.

Valderrama-Aramayo held a commanding 82.71 percent lead on Hank Klein in a race that saw 4,906 votes counted so far. The results were somewhat surprising for a contest in which one candidate — Klein — announced he had chosen not to actively run for the position shortly after filing for candidacy.

Malchow held a 59.22 percent lead on former councilor and mayor Mark Cross in a race that’s seen 5,110 votes counted so far. Malchow is a newcomer pol in the race against Cross, though the position was an open season race after councilor Nancy Whitten declined to run for re-election.

King County Elections will continue to update results in all area races until results are certified Nov. 24.
