Free youth dental screenings Saturday at YWCA Family Village

The screenings will take place from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. and require no appointments. Necessary paperwork will be available on-site.

Tomorrow, Jan. 10, the YWCA Family Village of Issaquah will host free dental screenings for children 18 and younger, from low income families.

The screenings will take place from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. and require no appointments. Necessary paperwork will be available on-site.

The screenings are sponsored by the Issaquah Schools Foundation, the Lake Washington Dental Hygienists’ Society and the University of Washington Center for Pediatric Dentistry.

According to the Center for Pediatric Dentristry, 60 percent of elementary school age children experience preventable tooth decay.

The American Dental Association and the American Academy of Pediatrics both recommend that parents or caregivers bring their child to the dentist as soon as a tooth appears in order to learn how to care for young teeth.

YWCA Family Village is located at 930 N.E. High Street in Issaquah.

Further free dental care will be provided in February and May. Both will require advance appointments due to limited space.

The Lake Washington Institute of Technology will host Free Kids Dental Day — for children aged 5-13 — from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Feb. 21. The Institute is located at 11605 132nd Ave. N.E. in Kirkland. Call 425-739-8100 for more information.

The UW Center for Pediatric Dentistry will host Dental Home Day — for children 1-18 — from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. May 20. The Center is located at 6222 N.E. 74th St. in Seattle. Call 206-543-5800 for more information.
