Maturity, honesty, integrity, hard work – Rotary applauds dedicated Skyline students

“When I see the students that we honor each month, I am absolutely amazed,” said Sammamish Rotarian Mark Buick. “I am amazed at their level of community involvement, their level of achievement, and their level of commitment.”

Buick was speaking at last Thursday morning’s meeting of the Rotary Club of Sammamish, at which the Rotarians honored two Skyline High School students as their Students of the Month.

“Maturity, honesty, integrity, hard work,” were a few of the traits Skyline teacher Ali Maners used to describe senior Tara Northey. “She is one of the most remarkable individuals I’ve had the honor to work with over the last 14 years.”

Northey was recognized for her contribution to the school’s leadership, and her efforts in the broader community. Northey, the student body president, has taken on more than her fair share of responsibility as a student and a citizen, and is clearer a driven young woman.

In addition to her leadership role with the Link Crew, Northey is also heavily involved with the Christian youth group Young Life, and regularly volunteers to lead a bible study group with her local church.

Fellow senior Brandon Chin has distinguished himself in very different, but equally important ways.

Chin was nominated for the Student of the Month award by TV/Digital Imaging teacher Rick Johnson. Johnson said that Chin had on many occasions helped the faculty with complex IT problems, helping to keep Skyline’s well-regarded TV and production program on track.

“Everyday Brandon teaches me, rather then me teaching him,” Johnson said. “He is a tremendous asset to the school.”

The Reporter congratulates Tara Northey and Brandon Chin for their dedication to their school, teachers and peers.
